About it

Where does the TNIV fit in?

Ever see those translators at the U.N.? They’re good, fast, and pretty accurate.  Bible translation is a hundred and eighty degrees different from that.

You start with the original Hebrew and Greek text. Committee on Bible Translation (CBT) scholars–lots of them–pore over every letter, every word. Their goal? To solve this equation:

Reliability and accuracy of the original text +
Readable language of today =
Relevant to your life.

Another way to say it?

Timeless truth in today’s language.

GOD's Word - Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic texts
+ CBT + IBS + Z = TNIV

To create the TNIV, the Committee on Bible Translation (CBT) started with the original that were inspired by God and then translated them into modern English.

The International Bible Society (IBS)—an organization whose mission since 1809 has been to share the Bible with others—partnered with Zondervan (Z), to distribute the TNIV around the world. It all started in 1950s, when Z joined with IBS, to distribute the CBT’s first work, the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible. By the end of the 80s—thanks to advances in biblical scholarship, a better understanding of ancient languages and cultures, and new archeological discoveries—the CBT felt that a clear, accurate translation in today’s English would be just the ticket, especially for readers who are new to the Scriptures. Add on about 12 years of translation work and you get the TNIV. Confused yet?

Don’t be. Here’s the point: the TNIV didn’t come easy; it’s the result of years of rigorous work by the world’s leading Bible scholars. The most accurate and easy-to-understand Bible in existence today—the TNIV.
