WHO
The fully independent body that translated the highly acclaimed NIV is the same eminent group that undertook the work on the TNIV.  The Committee on Bible Translation (CBT) produced the TNIV. The CBT is established to be an independent self-perpetuating body of the most renowned English-speaking linguists and scholars in the world. CBT was established in 1965 and commissioned to develop the NIV, the most read, most trusted English translation worldwide. The CBT has an ongoing commitment to produce additional translations in the same standard of excellence as the NIV.  These evangelical scholars of the CBT maintain an unswerving commitment to the authority of God's Word, its inspiration, and its infallibility. They represent a wide variety of denominations and geographic regions. Each member brings impeccable credentials and unparalleled expertise in evangelical scholarship and translation.

The widely respected translation methodology that drove the scholarship of the NIV was maintained in the development of the TNIV. Revisions were checked for accuracy against the original languages and reviewed one by one for faithfulness, communication and style. Only when a revision in English matched the accuracy of the original languages did it make its way into the TNIV.

What's more, just as the scholarship of the NIV was enthusiastically presented to the church for her review and acceptance, so too, the CBT presents the TNIV for study, personal devotion, teaching and outreach to a waiting world. The CBT mission statement reads in part: “The Bible alone, and the Bible in its entirety, is the Word of God written, and is therefore inerrant in the autographs.”

International Bible Society (IBS) sponsors the CBT and owns the copyright to the TNIV. IBS is a nonprofit ministry that uses proceeds to translate and distribute Scripture in indigenous languages all over the world. It is IBS’ mission to faithfully translate, publish and reach out with God’s Word. The IBS mission statement: “International Bible Society is a non-denominational, non-profit Christian organization established to serve the Church in evangelism and discipleship by providing God's Word so that people around the world may come to faith and life in Jesus Christ.”

Zondervan is the leading Christian communications company in the world. Zondervan, a division of HarperCollins Publishers, produces Bibles, books, new media products, gift products from its Inspirio group and children’s products from its Zonderkidz group. WHAT
Today’s New International Version (TNIV) is an
uncompromisingly accurate Bible translation in today’s language from the translators of the most trusted Bible translation, the NIV.  The TNIV is at the heart of Zondervan and IBS’s missions to share God’s Word with those in need in ways they can understand.

WHERE
The TNIV is available through Zondervan, IBS, Christian retailers and bookstores.

WHEN
The TNIV translation of the New Testament has been available to consumers since the spring of 2002. The full Bible is available as of February 2005.

WHY
It is the ongoing mission of IBS and Zondervan to work with the CBT to reach today’s generation with a translation of the Bible that is uncompromisingly accurate and clearly communicates the meaning of the original Scriptures. English usage keeps changing and new discoveries from the Dead Sea Scrolls and other ancient documents shed new light on the biblical text. As Dr. Ronald Youngblood, longtime CBT member says, “Responsible translation work never ends,” — especially if we want to accurately communicate the Scriptures to today’s generation.

Motivated by changes in English language and a need for certain clarifications, the CBT produced the TNIV. To ensure accuracy, scholars translate directly from the most reliable copies of the original Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic texts. Built on the foundation of the NIV, the TNIV also incorporates thousands of updates from reviews and critiques that the CBT has received since the NIV was published. This rendition of Scripture provides a new choice for those who desire a contemporary, but highly accurate translation. At the same time, those who continue to love and trust the NIV will continue to have access to it in its present form.
